deadlycreatures

I am terribly afraid of spiders.  Maybe it’s their hairy exterior, their poisonous bite, or just their pure ability to be fast, scary little terrors.  But yet I’m here to tell you how great of a game Deadly Creatures for the Nintendo Wii is. Read more…

Xi: Making Playstation Home Fun Again (…for the first time)

March 23rd, 2009
JacobSiegal

So I just logged into Playstation Home. I usually avoid Home, as it is a terrible failed experiment that resulted in a bunch of people being very bored and others making the best of it. But according to a post at the Playstation Blog, XI HAS BEGUN!

The world’s first console-based Alternate Reality Game starts today in PlayStation Home.

Called Xi , the adventure takes place in a series of secret areas in Home – and beyond – changing day by day, week by week, in real time. Anyone with a PLAYSTATION 3 can join in the fun for free.

To discover the mystery of Xi, simply log on to PlayStation Home and look for the graffiti on the wall in the main square. Find that, and all will be revealed….

I am a huge fan of ARGs and after being highly involved in the whole ilovebees2 catastrophe, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for anything mysterious and potentially upsetting. I’m off to try this out and I’ll be back with my opinions in an hour or so.

Check my updates after the break:

New DSi Colors for the Japanese

February 25th, 2009

new-dsi-colors-for-the-japanese

Usually I’m jealous of Japanese gamers and their first dibbs on fashionable consoles.  A ceramic white PS3?  Now that was just freakin’ sweet.

But overnight Nintendo announced the 3 New DSi colors to be released in Japan next month, and I’ve decided I’m not so green with envy this go-around. Nor am I Dayglo pink.

New DSi colors

I noticed American Apparel is offering a line of fanny packs and duffle bags to match the above gadgets, but I decided a long time ago I would not participate in the resurrection of the 80’s and 90’s.   That’s right… any pictures of me with crimped hair and lime green stretch pants have been torched and buried.

So you tell me… is it hot like this?

VC Monday: Nintendo knows it’s the “giving season” don’t they?

December 15th, 2008
Phillip Barta

In yet another episode of consecutive uneventful Virtual Console Monday updates, Nintendo once again fails to spark any interested in spending money on their digital download service.  Coming our way on this cold, winter day where this blogger is, are two WiiWare titles and yet only one Virtual Console title, all of which have sadly become the norm.

On WiiWare we are graced with Strong Bad Episode 5, which must be selling atleast enough to make money in order for the series to already be on Episode 5.  We also get Big Kahuna Party, which touts as being the “ultimate party game”.  And finally on the Virtual Console we’re given another Master System title in Enduro Racer.  For complete details on the games released today, check out the information below.

WiiWare™

Strong Bad Episode 5: 8-Bit Is Enough (Telltale Games, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Mild Cartoon Violence, Comic Mischief, Mild Suggestive Themes, 1,000 Wii Points): Trogdor, the beefy-armed dragon of legend, has shaken free from his video game and is running through the countryside, “burninating” everything in sight. With a dragon on the loose and 8-bit classics leaking into the real world, it’s all fun and games until the proud land of Strong Badia falls to Trogdor’s fiery wrath. Now Strong Bad must take back the night by sending this scorching menace back into his arcade cabinet once and for all. Just one problem: Does anybody know how to kill a dragon?

Big Kahuna Party (Reflexive Entertainment Inc., 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 700 Wii Points): Embark on a tropical adventure with the explosively charged Big Kahuna Party. Looking to make the ultimate party game, we started with a concept that’s accessible to the whole family-the popular match-three game. On top of that, we crafted a unique multiplayer experience in which you can choose to work together to complete the challenging levels before the timer runs out, or go head-to-head and compete in a frenzy of fun. To top it off, we added 99 uniquely free-flowing levels, the challenging Tiki Pole, 20 hidden tropical sea creatures to unlock, the strategic Fish Net and more. The result is a family party game like no other, easy to pick up but impossible to put down. Play alone or with friends, and unleash the Tiki spirit within.

Virtual Console™

Enduro Racer™ (SEGA Master System, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Based on the popular SEGA arcade game and redesigned for the SEGA Master System, Enduro Racer takes you on an intense set of adrenaline-designed courses containing diverse and rough terrain that will test your skills and reaction time. Ride as fast as you can to pass as many cars and bikes as possible while also avoiding obstacles and pitfalls such as debris on the road. Take jumps off ramps and try to keep your speed up, but make sure to keep an eye on your bike so it doesn’t blow up in your face. Are you ready for the challenge?

Too much awesome coming early ‘09 for DS.

December 11th, 2008
Phillip Barta

So, here just on the rumor report, it appears that Circuit City has apparently dated the releases of two upcoming DS games for the first quarter of 2009 for us, namely Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and Pokemon Platinum.  The people over at Siliconera are reporting that Circuit City apparently has Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon for the DS dated for a February 23 release in one of their Sunday ads for next year.  Having talked with a friend on the inside at Circuit City, it’s not uncommon for them to have their Sunday Ads months in advance, but with a release date not yet confirmed by Nintendo, we can only ever hope that this date is correct.

In other electrifying DS rumor-release news, it appears that Circuit City again has a listed title that hasn’t even been confirmed for US release as of yet, Pokemon Platinum.  In one of their ads for March, it’s showing the latest iteration in the Pokemon catching franchise has a release date here in the states of March 22nd.  Of course, this is all just speculation and rumor, as yet Nintendo hasn’t said a thing about the title appearing overseas since it launched in September back in Japan.  This tidbit was brought up by the folks over at bulbapedia.
